This week, the Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit against online sports betting companies that are pushing the idea that betting on NFL games is illegal.
A day earlier, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell made the first public statement about the lawsuit.
“This is an issue that’s been with us for quite some time, and we want to make sure that the technology that we have, that is currently in place, is effective,” Goodell said.
“We are a business and a business has to abide by the law, and it has to comply with all applicable regulations.”
The FTC says sports betting is illegal under federal law and its complaint comes as NFL betting markets have taken a turn for the worse.
The NFL has already lost billions of dollars in the last decade.
The NFL is one of the biggest sponsors of the league’s NFL Power Rankings.
And while the league has been accused of taking advantage of the Super Bowl to maximize its bottom line, it has been a massive draw for many fans, thanks in part to its “Super Bowl Sunday” deal that allows fans to bet on the upcoming Super Bowl at home.
The NFL also has been under fire recently for the fact that it has not implemented a single rule to combat online sports gambling, and is currently working to do just that.
The league is working on a plan to regulate online sports betters.
